The purpose of an acknowledgment is for the signer, to declare that he or she has willingly signed a document.

  • Typically performed on evidentiary documents which are critical to the operation of the U.S. justice system. Such documents include affidavits, depositions and interrogatories.

The purpose of a jurat is for the signer to swear under oath or affirm the truthfulness of the contents of a document.

  • Performed to confirm that a reproduction of an original document is true, exact and complete.

*California statue specifes that a Notary Public may only certify copies of Powers of Attorney.
